Dining Etiquette
So I shall be going to an interview dinner tonight for a part time job. So I am doing a small crash course on “Dining Etiquette”. Considering this is a fancy restaurant I really want to get everything right. This is for all of you guys out there who need these quick tips as much as I do!
Besides learning all the silverware above there are a few things to remember:
- Eat to your left, drink to your right. Any food dish to the left is yours, and any glass to the right is yours.
- From the outside – in: the beginning silverware is on the outside (soup and salad) and then move along the utensils as the courses progress.
- Knife in right hand, fork in left hand holding food. Eat food by switching fork to right hand. (This seems like a hassle so try the “European Style“: Knife in right hand, fork in left hand. Eat food with fork still in left hand.)
- Always scoop food away from you.
- Do not use a toothpick or apply makeup at the table.
These are just a few tips I found interesting. Remember to be polite ( eat politely too) and say your “please’s and thank you’s”!
Good luck fine diners!
